Emergency treatment…
How do you get a report laid out, proofed, printed and on the boss' desk by morning?
Government deadlines are notoriously tight, with hidden hands waiting to bung spanners in the works at the eleventh hour.
Take the National Health Service's Modernisation Board. They had the mission impossible of designing and presenting their Annual Report – a 100-page document – to expectant media, in just 18 hours.
The key was meticulous planning. Concept and layouts were agreed in advance and the sign-off procedure tested with dummy copy to make sure it would be alright on the night.
At next morning's press conference, only the aroma of a freshly-printed document gave away the tightness of the timescale.
