Disability Confident – DWP

Laying the foundation for a new equal-opportunities employment movement

To improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities, DWP launched Disability Confident: a conference and campaign targeting employers.

The campaign educates employers about the barriers people with disabilities can face when looking for employment, and dispels unhelpful myths about what it’s like to employ someone with a disability.

Redhouse Lane developed a visual identity that grew from the aims and objectives of the campaign – to raise awareness, challenge attitudes, remove barriers and allow everyone to realise their employment aspirations. Since then we’ve produced branded conference materials, a small business communication toolkit and online marketing collateral.

Soon after the campaign launched, more than 350 large employers declared their commitment to the campaign’s objectives by becoming Disability Confident partners.

68% of event attendees said they would promote the campaign within their organisation, and more than two thirds of people surveyed the campaign had improved their understanding of the barriers people with disabilities can face.

The campaign won two Civil Service Awards, including the Civil Service Diversity and Equality Award. It ranks as one of the UK Government’s most effective low-cost campaigns.
