McDonald's: Financial results animation

How McDonald's makes finance appetising

Thanks to some vibrant design work, the numbers aren't just looking healthy – they're looking fun

Challenge

McDonald's Europe operates in 39 countries from Albania to Ukraine. With such a dispersed and diverse workforce, effective employee communication is essential.

Staff need to:

  •     feel like part of the company's culture
  •     buy into its business strategy of service and innovation
  •     know how the business as a whole is performing.

The quarterly sales results provide the regular measure of business success, but it’s the trends and stories behind the figures that paint the bigger picture. McDonald’s came to Redhouse Lane to turn these into a regular communication: one that would inform, entertain and inspire staff across Europe.

Our response

We brought the sales figures to life by creating a series of animated sales reports that exploited contemporary design and music to capture the audience's imagination. Our writers used the results to illustrate the broader strategic messages.

To keep the presentation fresh, we developed a different, distinctive theme for each sales quarter, from inkblots to neon. Each theme was launched in the quarterly animation and then used in monthly PDF updates.

Result

64% of McDonald's staff agreed that internal communication is clearer and helps them better understand the company's direction and priorities. The client was thrilled: "We have been consistently impressed by Redhouse Lane's energetic and thorough approach. Their fresh approach to communicating is really invigorating!"
