Nurture
The central idea here is protecting the health and happiness of our people (anyone who remains to be convinced of the benefits should read the McLeod report on employee engagement). This is demonstrated by:
Investors in People
We have retained our IIP accreditation since 1999. This is what the assessors said last time:
“Redhouse Lane is clearly a very friendly, supportive and caring company to work for. As at the previous assessment the culture of appreciation and valuing staff helps to maintain high morale across the Company.”
Office environment
The location and design of our offices reflect a desire to ensure accessibility by public transport, safety for employees working late, collaborative working and comfort. There is no dress code, so long as we look professional and respect our clients’ culture.
Profit share
Everyone contributes to the company’s success, and everyone benefits from it. Each year, 10% of company profits is shared equally between past and present employees, pro-rata’d on days worked not seniority or star quality.
Work/life balance
As well as above-average holiday allowance – rising to 30 days with service – everyone gets their birthday off.
After five years’ service, staff can apply to take an unpaid sabbatical of up to three months. Staff have taken advantage of this from working on a conservation project in Costa Rica to setting up a rural school in Guatemala to teach children to read and write.
Social
We aim to ensure a friendly, collaborative atmosphere of mutually supportive colleagues.
Most of us are happier, more productive and better team workers once we’ve got to know the people we work with. Company-sponsored get-togethers include free drinks at the end of the week, team bonding events and, of course, the Christmas lunch, while an annual company away day is a chance to bond and celebrate success.
Staff meanwhile have organised a well-supported monthly Pub Club, a chance for staff from different departments to socialise and alumni to stay in touch, while there are frequent ad hoc team celebration events.
Health
Office life can make it hard to stay active, but subsidised gym membership, five minutes walk away, removes one or two excuses. So too does our cycle to work scheme, with secure bike storage and onsite shower facilities. Meanwhile staff have put an underutilised corner of a sunny terrace to good use, by turning it into a mini allotment.
