TDA professional standards launch
A set of professional standards has been launched by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to help teachers develop their careers.
Redhouse Lane designed the communication channels, with online and printed literature. The website received 14,905 visits in first two weeks.
The revised standards, a key element of the "new professionalism" for teachers, are the first clear, progressive framework of standards to help teachers plan their careers and identify their future development with their line managers.
Redhouse Lane's Eddie Finch-Hawkes led the information architecture and design of the TDA's professional standards for teachers website. He worked with the TDA from the beginning of the project in early 2006.
"The information architecture was a key element in structuring a clear and coherent set of standards for teachers to view on the internet," said Eddie.
"Our website asks teachers 'why sit still?'. We want to encourage teachers to take the driving seat of their careers."
The new site shows a clear career road for teachers. They can see all the standards required for the current stage of their career and compare these with the standards for earlier or later stages.
The standards set out the professional attributes, skills, knowledge and understanding expected at each stage of a teacher's career.
Michelle Ombler from the TDA commented: "By really making sure they understood the policy, Redhouse Lane have enabled us to present a detailed framework in several user friendly ways."
In addition, Redhouse Lane is currently working on branding for the TDA's future strategy of national priorities for teachers’ development.
