Going global with mining magazine
Anglo American’s stakeholder publication has been redesigned and distributed to 18,000 opinion-formers around the world.
Optima, the international mining company’s external-facing magazine, first published in 1951, is read by everyone from academics to key government figures.
The 60-page December 2009 issue features contributions from Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former Economist editor-in-chief Bill Emmott, Lord Browne of Madingley and the BBC’s Jon Sopel.
“It’s high-profile contributors such as these that show the ambition of Optima,” says Redhouse Lane’s Co-head of Editorial, Rob Jones.
Topics covered in the relaunched issue include the regeneration of Africa, how business and government can jointly tackle climate change, and industrial rivalry in Asia.
The magazine stands out due to its clean and striking design, high-quality photography and imaginative illustrations.
Editor-in-chief and Anglo American head of publications Norman Barber says:
“Optima needed a design revamp, as well as a sharper approach to copy. Redhouse Lane has succeeded in producing something that should stand in comparison with the best corporate publications anywhere.”
